With a chance for snow or ice, Orlando isn’t even a safe-haven for golfers
It’s hard to believe, but the recent wave of cold has splashed into regions of the Gulf Coast. Although it may seem more normal to hear that folks in cities like St. Louis, Missouri are having to brave a low of 2 degrees today, its severity is more apparent when residents in Orlando, Florida are warned to dust off their heavy winter coats (if they have them). As a result, the already crippled golf hotspots are having to brave yet another financially compromising variable. Click here to read the entire article at Examiner.com.

Happy birthday, Natalie Gulbis
Today marks Gulbis’ 27th birthday. Earlier, the LPGA star tweeted,
“Having the best birthday! We had cookies, yes homeade cookies and coffee for [breakfast]. My friends made me wear a crown!” When I read this update from one of the Tour’s hottest players (in terms of attractiveness AND talent), a few things came to mind: (a) Natalie eats cookies? (b) Who is responsible for losing my invitational in the mail? and (c) she deserves the crown…Read the entire article at Examiner.com.

Historically dominating conferences may rule again in 2010
When it comes to identifying the teams that belong in the who’s who of men’s division I golf, there traditionally is no need to look beyond the major conferences. In the past ten years, the Big Twelve, Pacific Ten, and Southeastern Conferences have each had associated teams go on to win NCAA championships three times; the remaining championship was won by Minnesota (Big Ten) in 2002. Are you serious?! PGA Tour newbie, Rickie Fowler, is red-hot again
In his last two PGA Tour starts, Rickie Fowler (an Oklahoma State alum) finished in a tie for seventh, and in a tie for second. The solid back-to-back performances earned him a cool $553,700, which placed him in 135th position on the PGA Tour’s Money List heading into this week’s event (The Children’s Miracle Network Classic). In order to finish in the top 125 – enabling him to forego having to earn his card by doing well in the PGA Tour’s Qualifying School – he would have to finish no worse than 12th place this week.
If his performance in today’s round serves as any indication, he seems sold on the idea of ditching “School” this year. After opening with a mediocre front nine score of 1-under, Fowler made a move up the leaderboard. Fowler birdied five of his final six holes, one of which came after he chipped in on the 18th hole. Currently, he sits in a tie for second – just one shot behind the tournament leader, Justin Rose.
Granted only one round of the Children’s Miracle Network Classic is over, it is hard not to get excited about what Fowler could possibly achieve if he is able to maintain his form for another three rounds. If he wins this week, he will only have needed to play in three PGA Tour events as a pro; it took Tiger five to accomplish the same feat back in 1996 when he was a budding twenty-year-old. Furthermore, a top 12 finish would automatically secure his PGA Tour card – a feat only one player – Ryan Moore – has accomplished since Tiger Woods did it in 1996.
It will be fun to watch Fowler attempt to break one of Woods’ impressive records. If he is able to do it, Disney would even seem more magical than it already is…
